The T5 EVO, which is one of the car brand of Chinese car maker Dong Feng, was chosen as the official lead car at the 17th edition of the Kigali International Peace Marathon which took place on Sunday, May 29.
The car carried one of the annual athletics competition’s commissioners who was observing how the half-marathon race was going down during its entire itinerary to the finishing line at the BK Arena.
Carcarbaba, a Rwandan car dealership located in Kanogo in Nyarugenge district, is the official distributor of the car all the way from the Dong Feng Motor Corporation’s headquarters in China.
The T5 EVO was manufactured by China Dong Feng Motor Group, a Chinese firm.
"We sponsored the International Peace Marathon because we believe it is the best way to interact with our esteemed customers through doing sports,” said Ernest Bugingo, the Sales Supervisor at Carcarbaba.
It was the first time that a Chinese-branded car has appeared in similar races in Rwanda and even in Africa. With its magnificent appearance, the car was among special highlights of the marathon and is likelier to keep the role as the leading car in future editions of the race.

Manufacturer
The T5 EVO was manufactured by China Dong Feng Motor Group, a Chinese firm.
In China, Dong Feng has more than 60 years of experience in vehicle manufacturing. It has two new production bases for commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles, with an annual production capacity of 1 million vehicles.
The products are exported to over 40 countries from America, Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and, with a very high cost performance, it is quickly attracting the attention of local consumers on Rwandan market.
The T5 EVO used in this competition is a brand-new SUV launched by Dong Feng Motor Corporation in 2021 and arrived on Rwandan market in November last year.
Up to now, the total annual sales of the car in the world are close to 100,000 units.
Design
Short front and rear overhangs and low body shape, combined with the strong lion logo and sideways penetrating sports lines, is how one can simply describe the car’s design.
"It is an athlete in tights", the styling director of T5 EVO who has worked in GM, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and other companies. This is how Henning describes its design.
In addition, the T5 EVO is also equipped with a Mitsubishi 4A95TD engine with a maximum horsepower of 197PS. And it adopts the same Getrag 7-speed dual-clutch wet transmission as BMW M3.

It is the world's top three well-known transmission brands, making the power and handling performance of the T5 EVO comparable to the flagship models of other well-known brands.
