Last week started off with cross-border shelling of rockets by the Congolese army, FARDC, which landed in Rwandan territory on Monday, May 23.
Rebel group M23 had said in a statement that FARDC was working with that fighters belonging to the FDLR, a terrorist outfit whose members are accused of genocide crimes in Rwanda, something that was confirmed by the Rwandan military in a statement calling for the release of two of its soldiers kidnapped while on patrol.
Meanwhile, President Kagame arrived in the Swiss town of Davos where he joined over 50 Heads of State for the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meetings. The President held meetings with different dignitaries.
On May 24, a total of 735 ex-combatants of armed groups based in eastern DR Congo were discharged from Mutobo Demobilisation and Reintegration Centre, while on May 26, the first cohort of 603 prisoners graduated with skills in vocational studies in Nyarugenge prison.
On the same day, the first cohort of commercial pilots graduated from Akagera Aviation Academy (AAA) after a two-year academic journey.
Also in the past week, Kicukiro primary court on granted bail to Elsa Iradukunda, Miss Rwanda 2017, after prosecution withdrew their case on pre-trial detention.
Also, Kigali Arena rebranded to BK Arena in a Rwf7 billion naming rights agreement signed between Bank of Kigali and QA Solutions, the firm that manages the facility.
It is in the same Arena that Tunisian giants, US Monastir were crowned champions after a comeback win over Angola’s Petro de Luanda in the second season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL).
There couldn’t have been a better way to end the week than taking part in the 2022 Kigali International Peace Marathon on Sunday.
