Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye on Saturday, May 28 has called on everyone to fight against genocide deniers and the spread of misinformation.

He said this as he presided over the commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi by Rwandans and friends of Rwanda living in New Zealand.

Uwihanganye is also accredited to New Zealand.

"Twenty-eight years later, deniers of the genocide against the Tutsi and double genocide theory apologists are on the rise and I am calling on everyone to fight against genocide deniers and the spread of misinformation," he said.

 In addition, he pointed out that disallowing them from spreading their misinformation and cooperating in apprehending genocide suspects is the only way to give ‘Never Again’ meaning for Rwanda and the whole world.

Uwihanganye was speaking at an event to mark the 28th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi that claimed more than one million lives.

In attendance were the Rwandans who live in Auckland, New Zealand, and friends, including the Leader of African Communities Forum Inc, and Donald Charles McKinnon, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand, among others.

Uwihanganye commended the attendees for making time to remember Genocide victims and offering comfort to the survivors.

He paid tribute to New Zealand national, Colin Keating  who served as Ambassador of New Zealand to the UN in 1994, saying that he was one of the few people who stood firmly and told the world what was happening in Rwanda was a genocide while many in the world had abandoned Rwandans.

The commemoration event was marked by observation of a moment of silence and candle-lighting as well as giving the platform to the survivor to share their testimony and poem by a young Rwandan, expressing what Rwanda represents for him.
