Ntawangundi defends his team despite woeful African Volleyball Champ

Rwanda lost their third game 3-0 by hosts Tunisia on Monday night before another 3-0 demolition at the hands of Egypt on Tuesday.

Rwanda U18 head coach Dominique Ntawangundi says his youthful team has gained valuable experience from playing against top oppositions in the 2024 African Nations Volleyball Championship taking place in Sfax, Tunisia.

Rwanda lost their third game 3-0 by hosts Tunisia on Monday night before another 3-0 demolition at the hands of Egypt on Tuesday.

The two defeats extended the Rwandan youth team’s losing streak after falling to Algeria in first game 3-0 (25-19, 25-9 and 25-15, on Saturday, and to Morocco 3-0 (25-11, 25-21 and 25-19) the following day.

It has been an absolutely poor showing from Rwanda’s U18 team which has failed to register a single set so far in the tournament but Ntawangundi his team will become better force in the future after a number of lesson from such a top competition.

"The results are not what we wanted but we should pick out some positives from our performance because even though we lost, we gained a lot and it was very close and against tough oppositions,” Ntawangundi said adding that the experience of playing in the competition will help the team to do even better going forward.

"The players lost a bit of focus and were also nervous in some games due to lack of experience, something that can cost you in such elite competitions,” he added.

Rwanda U18 play their last game against Kenya. The top 4 teams advanced to the semifinals.
