The Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) will open two high quality courts before the end of 2022 in a bid to increase basketball facilities in the country.
Located in Kigali, the courts are being constructed with support from different partners. One of the courts is in Kimironko sector, Gasabo District, while the other is at Lycee de Kigali secondary school, in Nyarugenge District.
Speaking to Times Sport, Landry Jabo, the Executive Director at Ferwaba, said the courts will play a key role in the promotion of the game of basketball in general.
"We had a problem of shortage of courts. But these new courts will assist us a lot in the league, as well as give space to younger players to promote their talents,” he noted.
According to Ferwaba officials, the one in Kimironko will be ready in November, and will host 500 fans. It is being built as a result of a collaboration between Ferwaba, the Basketball Africa League(BAL), Imbuto Foundation and the Ministry of Sports.
The one at Lycee de Kigali will be opened in December. It will have the capacity to host up to 1,300 fans and has a covered pavilion. It is being built out of a partnership between NBA Africa and Ferwaba.
These two new courts will be an addition to the one located in Nyarugenge district, at Club Rafiki, that can host 300 fans.
