Top Rwandan producer and artiste, Micheal Makembe is joining 59 collectives and artistes from across the world at the Dak’Art 2022 where he will perform some of his best projects including his unique genre which is a fusion of Rwandan traditional sounds and modern sounds.
The Dak’Art African contemporary art biennale, which is being held in Dakar, Senegal, is a major biennale of contemporary art in Africa and one of the ten major biennales in the world.
The event, among others, will showcase melanated talent in the art world from May 19 - 28, 2022.
Makembe will perform first on May 21, at the Black Civilisation Museum during Les Restes Supremes, a plastic works exhibition by Dorcy Rugamba.
"I will be performing in Dakar, Senegal from 21 to 28 May at La Biennale De Dakar,” Makembe said in a tweet which was welcomed by many of his fans.
Having built a legacy from telling stories that express strength of dominance through traditional sounds he collects from different areas of Rwanda, there is hope that his performance will highlight the beauty of Rwandan native sounds and introduce it to the rest of the world.
Having started making music at the age of 10, Makembe is one of the best sound engineers and beat makers in Rwanda at the moment with top records winning admiration and respect of music lovers.
He is best known for using traditional percussion and modern sounds in the making of his projects, a fusion that gave birth to different sub-genres.
His latest project, Sounds of Home, a mix of sounds he collected from Nkombo Island and modern sounds made it to Africa Direct, a series of African stories by Al Jazeera.
Makembe also produced different songs including 'Generation' by Ish Kevin, which is among the trending tracks in Rwanda at the moment.
