Whether at home, or at the workplace, assigning tasks isn’t an easy job. For the supervisors and any other leader, learning how to do it efficiently is important, especially in the working environment as it helps everyone in the team work with ease.
Why it’s important
Mathias Nkeeto, an educator and counselor believe that as a leader, when you assign your juniors something to do doesn’t mean that as an individual you cannot do it.
However, he notes that this means that you trust those you are working with, and most importantly, it helps empowers your team, builds trust as well as assists with professional development.
As a leader, Nkeeto says this is also important as it helps one learn how to identify the strengths and weaknesses of your team and how to support them where necessary.
Meanwhile, the educator also adds that for the team, this is also an opportunity for them to develop and learn new skills as well as gain knowledge that will be of importance in the future.
Beryl Akinyi, head of the counseling department at Mother Mary International School, believes that as a leader, how well you delegate tasks helps empower your colleagues. And most importantly, helps strengthen their skills and decision-making abilities at the same time.
Aside from this, Akinyi also is of the view that when you delegate tasks efficiently, it means that that particular person is already equipped with everything they need.
"This means that aside from tasking someone what they already know how to carry out, it also helps train them in different skills, thus adding up on what they have,” she says.
In addition to this, Akinyi says when you are in a position to delegate a task to someone; it means that you are giving room and space to others to flourish in their abilities and skill in different skills.
"Your team also gets a feeling of fulfillment as they start believing in themselves, which ensures high productivity in the end,” she adds.
On the otherhand, Edward Mwumvaneza, a youth leader says that when you delegate a task and someone is able to carry it out efficiently, it helps you get inspired and motivated at the same time.
This helps motivate others thus increasing productivity in the end.
He goes on to note that delegation also helps in breaking the monotony of the team so that they can be more creative and efficient in everything they carry out.
Delegation is not only helpful to those you lead, but it also helps those in charge to develop their talents and skills. It also gives them enough time to concentrate on important issues.
Studies also indicate that granting powers and getting the work done, help leaders to attain communication skills, supervision and guidance, effective motivation, and the leadership traits are flourished.
Besides, it is also believed that delegation of authority helps both superiors and subordinates. This, in a way, gives stability to a company.
