Sean Mwesigwa, a US-based point guard, has joined national team camp ahead of the 2024 FIBA Africa Men’s U18 Basketball Championship which will take place in Pretoria, South Africa

The two-week tournament will tip off Monday, September 2 and will run through September 14. The team is currently based at Cenetra Hotel in Kabuga and are holding training sessions twice a day at Lycée de Kigali gymnasium.

Mwesigwa arrived in Rwanda on Sunday and is part of head coach Yves Murenzi’s 15-man roster. The team will depart for South Africa on Friday, August 30.

Known for his all-around game, the youngster is a good scorer and passer, as well as good in defence and boasts a strong mid-range game.

During the 2023 U-16 Afrobasket, Mwesigwa demonstrated his prowess by scoring a total of 80 points throughout the tournament. He showcased his scoring ability and court vision, achieving game highs of 34 points against Tunisia and 21 points against Côte d'Ivoire.

His leadership and playmaking skills were instrumental as he guided his team to the quarter-finals.

He currently plays for Seven Lakes High School in Fort Bend County, Texas.

Rwanda has been placed in Group C for the 2024 FIBA Africa Men’s U18 Basketball Championship, alongside Morocco, South Africa, and Zambia.
