As CHOGM 2022 is just round the corner, Clementine Mukeka, the head of CHOGM 2022 taskforce attended The Prince of Wales’ SMI (Sustainable Markets Initiative) dinner at Buckingham Palace on May 11, in preparation of the meeting where global leaders will agree on actions to promote sustainable and people-centered development.

Prince Charles, who is also the reigning monarch in the UK, will represent his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who is now 96.

Earlier, on May 9, President Kagame joined virtually the 40th Anniversary of Rwanda-Rhineland Palatinate partnership with Malu Dreyer, Minister President of Rhineland-Palatinate; Svenja Schulze, Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Dr. Sierk Poetting, COO of BioNTech Group.

He would later on May 12 in his office receive a delegation from BPN Rwanda to celebrate the organization’s 10th anniversary during which they have supported close to 300 entrepreneurs in over 20 industries.

On the same day, Auditor General, Alex Kamuhire, tabled his annual report to a joint parliamentary session where he said that overall irregular expenditure reduced by 43 per cent from Rwf5.7 billion in 2020 to Rwf3.2 billion in 2021.

On Wednesday, May 11, Dutch police arrested 65-year-old Maj. Pierre-Claver Karangwa, a former Rwandan army officer living in Ermelo, Netherlands.

Also, according to a statement from the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), the last major fugitive wanted for his role in the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, Protais Mpiranya died on October 5, 2006 in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Another Genocide suspect, Jean-Paul Micomyiza appeared in court on May 13 for the first time since his extradition on April 27, where the Kicukiro Primary Court postponed his pre-trial hearing to this week.

The same court ruled to conduct the pre-trial hearing of Dieudonné Ishimwe commonly known as ‘Prince Kid,’ charged with sex crimes in camera (closed to the public).

Later in the week, on May 13, the government of Rwanda lifted the mandatory wearing of face masks in public as a prevention against Covid-19, effective May 14.

Earlier that day, young innovators won a grand prize of 10,000 USD each after pitching innovative ideas that promote sexual reproductive health and mental health in the iAccelerator challenge by Imbuto Foundation.

That same Friday saw thousands show up for the now famous Kigali Night Run.

The week wound up the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Vincent Biruta’s official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he held a bilateral meeting with the Min of Foreign Affairs, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud.
