Singer Eesam, born Samuel Byiringiro, has said his fans should expect more from him after releasing a song featuring Afrobeat star Eric Mabano – popularly known by stage name ‘Mr Kagame’.
Titled ‘Ukuri’, Eesam told The New Times that the song was inspired by a true story from one of his friends.
"My friend was in a relationship with a girl for a long time then things went sideways and they ended it. Not long after, the girl got married and my friend attended the wedding,” the rising RnB star said on his latest single.
He added: "This collaboration is just the beginning. My fans, and music lovers in general, can expect more from me.”
Asked why he chose to collaborate with Mr Kagame, the ‘Igitoki’ singer said: "He is one of the best lyricists in the country and he was approachable, and I was convinced his hip hop flavor would add something to the song. It was an easy decision to take.”
Eesam is widely seen as one of the most exceptional music talents, and says he plans to release his debut album this year.
In a separate interview, Mr. Kagame said he listened to a few of Easam’s songs before accepting to work on ‘Ukuri’ with him. "He is very talented. I liked his vocals and studio vibes ... He has a huge future ahead of him if he doesn’t give up.”
Eesam is also a songwriter, and has composed songs for more established musicians like Marina, Yvan Muziki and Bushali to name a few.
"Bruce Melodie is my idol in the Rwandan [music] industry,” Eesam confessed.
