Kiyovu SC may have had a bright start to the new league campaign but club head coach Joslin Bipfubusa is very concerned that the team could struggle in the next fixtures as some players in his squad are past their best due to poor fitness.

The Green Baggies beat AS Kigali 2-1 in their opening Rwanda Premier League encounter but Bipfubusa is unsure his team can maintain the momentum until his players work on their fitness levels.

The Burundian tactician said most of his players are not in good physical shape because they "have not played for a long time.”

The likes of Ernest Sugira, Cédric Amissi, Jospin Nshimirimana, who all joined the club during the summer transfer window, are among players who, the coach said, will have time to improve their physical fitness.

"We have got good result in first game but, honestly, we have seen some players who need to improve the fitness and we will keep reviewing them in the coming days in training. We have some players who are not in good shape and they still have hard enough to come back to their best,” said Bipfubusa.

To tackle the fitness issue, Bipfubusa took his team for a two-week training camp in Ngoma where he will be putting his players through their paces to regain their pace until the end of the international break.

The camp is underway since Wednesday, August 26 and the coach believes it be helpful for a club which didn’t have a pre-season.

"There is work to be done before the players get ready for next fixtures, we have players who need to improve. We didn’t have enough time to work with them before the league started but we will use this international break to prepare well, so we need to help them to work on their fitness.”
