Airtel Rwanda has introduced ‘Ubuntu’ bouquet of voice, Internet, and SMS products, offering the most diverse, potentially far best possible value and most generous for the Airtel Rwanda customer, according to the operator. 

Ubuntu comes to simplify the Airtel menu *255#, eliminating complex products. The replacement offers new, multi-purpose packs that enable customers to make unlimited calls and send SMSs across all networks.

Ubuntu is a word that is common in African languages and cultures. According to Segun Ogunsanya, Airtel Africa Group Chief Executive

Officer and Managing Director, it means "I am Because you are” in Zulu. "It encapsulates the virtues of Humanity, Compassion, and Generosity,” he said. 

Bundles can be purchased by dialing *255#, ‘UBUNTU’ all networks (1), Internet (2), ‘UBUNTU’ packs (3), 4G packs (4), other packs/services (5), etc, or through the My Airtel App or via Airtel Money. 

Ubuntu all networks offer a daily pack for as low as Rwf200 giving 100 Minutes and 100 SMS, a weekly pack for Rwf1,500 that comes with 1.5 GB in addition to 100 minutes and 100 SMS for everyday use, and a monthly Pack for Rwf15,000, giving customers 30GB of data valid for 30 days plus unlimited calls, and unlimited SMS.

These can be accessed unconditionally by any Airtel user, and are fairly affordable and easy to use since these are availed in different languages.

Ubuntu Packs are open market bundles that allow customers to call all networks in Rwanda and SMS to any Network plus the Internet. This facility will make it easy for those who find it tiring to own more than one sim card.

Ogunsanya highlighted that Airtel may, in the very near future, introduce more services, particularly Airtel Money and Internet Services. "This will be a further demonstration of our commitment as Airtel Africa to the serving the Rwandan market, the Rwandan telecom consumer, and the Rwandan government at large,” he said.

Ogunsanya was on his maiden tour of the operation in Rwanda from May 5-6. He held several meetings with the Regulators, RURA and the central bank the Ministry of ICT, and other stakeholders.

Airtel Africa first ventured into the Rwandan Telecom market in 2012. Over the last 10 years, they have invested considerably in the business, rolling out nationwide Network coverage, introducing Airtel Money, acquired and integrating the second Telecom Operator.

They also started selling competitively priced 4G internet in December 2021, extending this technology to customers who were hitherto excluded from accessing the fastest mobile internet speeds in the market. They did so by revising the pricing by up to 80%, making 4G affordable to any internet customer in Rwanda.
