Sunday

2nd friendly (Rwanda v Uganda)

The national ladies’ cricket team is in for a big test today when they face their Ugandan counterparts in the first of the two international friendlies at Lugogo cricket oval in Kampala. The team left Kigali yesterday by road and only had a few hours to get used to the playing conditions in Uganda.

According to the Rwanda Cricket Association, the friendlies are part of the teams’ preparation for the ICC Eastern African Regional women’s tournament that will be staged in Nairobi in December.

Being the first international game for the Rwandan girls, they are undoubtedly expected to struggle against the more experienced Ugandan side.

"The essence of these friendlies is to weigh both countries ahead of the regional tournament. It’s certainly going to be a big test for the girls in Uganda because it’s their first competitive international game,” RCA’s president Charles Haba told Times Sport shortly before the team’s departure yesterday.

The event will merge four countries; Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. Uganda is the defending champion after winning last year’s competition in Kampala.

Team; Nadine Uwase (Captain), Charlotte Mutoni, Jackline Nyiramongi, Clarisse Ingabire, Assuma Uwase, Zainabu Murerwa , Lina Ntagonzera, Yvette Mahirwe, Sarah Nibyobyiza, Delphine Mukarurangwa, Annette Muganga, Annita Umunyana, Winnie Assimwe, Barbra Katasi, Evodia Mukaremera while Eric Dusabemungu traveled as coach.
