Simbi Muhoza, known by his stage name Yan Rukumbi, is one of the rising and promising R&B artistes in the country today. The singer started doing music professionally in 2020. He says growing up, he enjoyed listening to different genres of music, following up on new music and even made covers for different songs.

According to Muhoza, music is a passion that he has had since he was young, but mostly did it for fun than making his own music because he believed he had a lot to learn first.

"I like music because it gives me happiness whether I make a lot of money or not, I will keep doing it because it is part of my life. Through my music I get to inspire and bring hope to people,” he says.

Muhoza came in second during the ‘Show me your Talent’ music competition that airs on Rwanda Television. He has four songs so far and plans to release his fifth song as soon as he is done with the video production which is almost at its completion.

"The biggest challenge joining the music industry has been getting promotion and video production, especially for someone like me who stays in Rusizi. It is challenging and slows my music down sometimes. If I could get support in terms of money I could make more music and even much better, but now I only get support from family and friends,” he says.

Asked where he sees himself in the future, Muhoza says he believes in his talent a lot, and hopes to make a brand for himself and make his music known. "I don’t plan on stopping music anytime. My vision is to make music for everyone not just for the young generation that mostly talks about Rwandan values.” Muhoza is also a wedding song creator and writer.
