Editor,

The Government’s recent cracks down on corrupt officials is a very welcome development in my view. I am particularly interested in the high profile corruption case involving Vincent Gatwabuyege and George Katurebe.

The prosecution and subsequent punishment of the former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA) and the Director General of CEPEX will be a landmark achievement and indication that there is zero tolerance of corruption in my beloved country.

The officials who are accused of embezzling and mismanaging government funds amounting to Rfw1.7bn will serve as an example and probably all the others in positions of responsibility to think twice before messing up.

In case they are proved innocent, well and good. But if they are guilty, they should be given their rightful sentences.
