Players abroad: Furaha hits brace as Gitego scores in Leopards league opener

It was a good weekend for a number of Rwandan players abroad who made notable contributions to their clubs’ results over the weekend.

Youngster Josias King Furaha scored twice for Norwegian side FK Jerv, Gitego was also on target as Kenyan Premier League returned while Lague Byiringiro provided an assist in Sandviken heavy win over Trelleborg.

Sweden

In the Swedish second tier league, Lague Byiringiro came from the bench in the 88th minute to set up John Kirby for the fourth goal in the 97th minute as Sandviken recorded a 4-0 win over Trelleborg at the Arena Jernvallen on Sunday, August 25. Byiringiro’s countryman and teammate Yannick Mukunzi was not in the match day squad.

In the same division, winger Rafael York replaced Lu Ranera in the 65th minute as his relegation threatened Gefle IF posted a shocking 2-1 win over third-placed Oster.

In the third tier league, Kaleleo Wimbabazi was introduced on the stroke of half time as his side Pitea IF were hammered 3-0 by Umea.

Elsewhere, centre back Torre Rafael featured for 62 minutes before making way for Youla as his team Orebro Syrianska was given a 3-0 humbling by Hammarby TFF.

Norway

Beltran Nishimwe was an unused substitute for Norwegian top tier side Sandefjord who beat Kristiansund 1-0.

Winger Josias King Furaha netted a brace in the 77th and 89th minute as promotion-chasing FK Jerv beat Floy-Flekkeroy 2-0 at the Cemo Arena on Saturday, August 24.

In another game in the third tier, goalkeeper Clement Twizere Buhake was in post for Ull/Kisa who defeated Valerenga II 4-2.

Denmark

In the second tier league, holding midfielder Sanders Ngabo replaced Kosovo international Muhamet Hyseni in the 62nd minute as his side AC Horsens drew 1-1 with Vendsyssel at the Nordstern Arena on Saturday, August 24.

England

Midfielder Doyle Kamari was introduced in the 62nd minute as his club Exeter City lost 2-1 to Peterborough United in the English League 1 on Saturday, August 24.

In the League 2, Harvey Araujo was not in the match day squad of Chesterfield as they drew 1-1 with Salford City.

Belgium

Samuel Gueulette played full time for Raal La Louviere in the Challenger Pro League as they held Club Brugge II to a 1-1 draw while, in the Jupiler Pro League, midfielder Hakim Sahabo was an unused substitute for Standard Liege who pipped Beerschot 1-0 as he continues recovery from his injury.

France

Right back Warren Kamanzi played full time for Toulouse who drew 1-1 with OGC Nice at the Allianz Riviera Stadium on Saturday, August 25 while, in Ligue 2, striker Joel Mugisha played 62 minutes before making way for Le Bris as his side Lorient beat Grenoble 2-0.

In the CFA League, central defender Bryan Ngwabije was not in the match day squad of ASF Andrezieux who lost 2-1 to Pays de Grasse.

Netherlands

Noam Emeran was an unused substitute for FC Groningen who drew goalless with AZ Alkmaar.

Ukraine

Amavubi captain Djihad Bizimana played full throttle for Kryvbas who drew 1-1 with Inhulets in the Ukrainian Premier League match day four game on Sunday, August 25.

Azerbaijan

Centre back Ange Mutsinzi played 46 minutes before being replaced by Brazilian Raphael Utzig as his side Zira FK lost 1-0 to Shamakhi.

Macedonia

Abdul Rwatubyaye played 90 minutes for Shkupi who beat Vardar 3-0.

Cyprus

Emmanuel Imanishimwe was an unused substitute for AEL Limassol who beat Omonia Maiou 4-2 at the Stadium Peristerona on Saturday, August 24.

Switzerland

Espoir Niyo Nsanzineza was not in the FC Will team that beat Xamas 4-0 in the Swiss second tier league. Goalkeeper Hugo Bigirimama did not make the Xamas squad either.

In the Classica Liga, which is the fourth tier league, skipper Quentin Rushenguziminega featured for FC Echallens who beat FC Lancy 2-1.

CAF Competitions

Centre back Thierry Manzi played full time for Libyan out Al Ahli Tripoli who beat Uhamiaji FC of Tanzania 3-1 on Saturday, August 24, to qualify for the next round of the CAF Confederation Cup with a 5-1 aggregate victory.

United States

Winger Jojea Kwizera played full throttle for Rhode Island FC who extended their unbeaten run to 10 games following a goalless draw with Loudoun United.

In the third tier league, striker Innocent Nshuti was not in the match day squad for One Knoxville FC who played out a 1-1 draw with Spokane Velocity at the Regal Soccer Stadium in Tennessee.

Latvia

Centre back Dylan Maes was not in the match day squad for FS Jelgava who beat Grobinas 3-2.

Kenya

Striker Arthur Gitego shot AFC Leopards ahead in the third minute as they went on to beat Mathare United 4-0 in match day 1 of the 2024/25 Kenya Premier League.
