RWAMAGANA — Nyagatare was ahead of other  districts in the Province, after the assessment of the implementation of performance contracts for the first quarter.

According to results announced by Provimcial Governor, Dr Ephraim Kabayija, Nyagatare scored 80 percent.

The other districts scored as follows: Ngoma 79 %, Kirehe 78%, Kayonza 73 %, Bugesera 72 %, Rwamagana 71% and Gatsibo 70%.

Prime Minister, Bernard Makuza, who presided over the function at Avega offices in Rwamagana District, said that performance contracts are necessary to accelerate development, while assessment helps to establish the challenges faced in the implementation.

"We have to ensure that every issue is tackled, not choosing some activities and leaving others yet they are all for the development of the entire country. Performance contracts should lead to a better way of living for the citizens as we look forward to a better future,” the Premier noted.

He pointed out that the young generation should be protected from poverty by ensuring their welfare, proper feeding and good environment.

"We spent a lot of time in conflict, so we should try to work quickly to achieve what we want and catch up with others,” he said.

The Minister of Local Government, Protais Musoni, called on local leaders to make sustainable innovations which can transform livelihoods.

Calling on local leaders to involve residents in tackling challenges, Musoni stressed the need to fight corruption, saying it breeds conflicts.

He further advised local leaders to collaborate with each other in order to cover the human resource gaps.
