Renowned Rwandan disc jockey, DJ Toxxyk, has released his highly anticipated extended play dubbed ‘Ayden’.

The release of his first EP follows ‘The Toxxyk Experience’, a successful event which was held on April 2, to celebrate his six years in the making of music.

Premiered on April 26, the five track extended play which is named after Toxxyk's son, Ayden, holds features of merging artistes like Juno Kizigenza, Ariel Ways, Maestroboomin, Angell Mutoni, Memo, among others.

Talking to this publication, Arnaud Shema, popularly known as DJ Tooxyk, said that the Ayden EP was highly needed in Rwanda’s music scene especially from a local disc jockey.

"Where the music industry stands at the moment, it needs something which is diverse in its making like this EP. It’s a mixed project from its melodies and chords, to languages and genres that makes its production,” he said, explaining the uniqueness of the EP.

"I didn’t limit myself on this… it’s for everyone,” he added.

The uniqueness of the EP was also applauded by different musicians in Rwanda on social media platforms who described it as a new wave.

After the premiering of Ayden, DJ K’RU, through his twitter handle congratulated DJ Toxxyk on the release of Ayden noting that he liked the range of vibes on the EP.

"Thank you for putting on for the new wave coming out of Rwanda,” DJ K’Ru said in a tweet.

All the tracks on the EP were produced by both Davydenko and Kevin Klein in different genres such as house music, Afropop, Trap, among others.

According to Toxxyk, the whole extended play is dedicated to his fans, but more specifically for the young generation in Rwanda’s music scene, which is why different names of fast rising artistes appeared on it.

"The young generation is the future in everything including music. I dedicated this to upcoming artistes because I see potential in them. There is a lot we can achieve with these talents,” he said.

The EP comes at times when Rwandan DJs have stepped in the process of making music as not only DJs, but also artistes and producers.

This was seen through previous releases of DJs like Kantona of DJ Pyfo, The Son of Rwanda EP by DJ Marnaud, among many other hits dropped by disc jockeys in the past.

The EP which is only streamed on Spotify and Apple music is already trending in the country with tracks like ‘Single’, ‘Away’ and ‘BMW’ leading others on the trend.
