In an effort to boost financial inclusion and streamline access to banking services, Ecobank Rwanda has joined forces with Rwanda Telecentre Network (RTN).

This partnership, officially established on Friday, August 23, is poised to significantly expand the reach of banking services in the country, particularly in underserved and remote areas.

By leveraging RTN's extensive network and Ecobank's comprehensive financial products, the two companies said the collaboration aims to empower Rwandans with easy and affordable access to essential banking services, fostering economic growth and driving the nation's digital transformation agenda.

"We partnered with RTN because of their extensive presence across the country,” said Carine Umutoni, Managing Director of Ecobank Rwanda.

"With today&039;s technology, we believe we can leverage our banking products and offerings through RTN's network to reach the underbanked population. Our goal is to provide comprehensive banking services to as many Rwandans as possible,” she noted.

Under this partnership, RTN agents will offer a wide range of Ecobank's services, including Account opening, cash deposits and withdrawals. Customers will also be able to send and receive money across Africa via Rapid Transfer, pay taxes, purchase airtime, and load prepaid cards and much more through the agents.

Umutoni emphasized that this collaboration is in line with Ecobank's commitment to contributing to a cashless and digital economy for Rwanda through Iteme, a service platform that allows agents to distribute different digital services.

Paul Barera, Founder and CEO of RTN, emphasized the profound impact of this partnership, highlighting the company’s robust network of 3,000 agents across the country. With 70% of these agents strategically positioned in rural areas, Barera pointed out RTN’s strong and active presence in these underserved communities.

He also noted that this initiative is not only expected to create numerous job opportunities but is also designed to prioritize individuals with limited access to banking services. 'Our primary mission is to reach citizens who face challenges in accessing financial services,' Barera stated."

Barera further explained, 'Previously, becoming a bank agent required several requirements which was a barrier for many. That is why we developed Iteme platform that allows an agent to manage transactions for multiple banks with just one account.

"This partnership has streamlined bank services and job opportunities with remarkable ease. By promoting cashless transactions, it has made various payment methods simpler and more accessible to everyone no matter the location,” Evariste Mugabo, an agent of the RTN.

The partnership between Ecobank and RTN is set to play a crucial role in reducing cash circulation in Rwanda, promoting digital banking, and bringing more citizens into the formal financial system.

With this collaboration, the two companies aim to create a more inclusive and digitally connected economy for all Rwandans.
