The national Athletes federation has confirmed May 24th as the date for the prestigious Kigali international marathon. The event which is rolling into its 5th edition will be flagged off at Amahoro stadium.
The national Athletes federation has confirmed May 24th as the date for the prestigious Kigali international marathon. The event which is rolling into its 5th edition will be flagged off at Amahoro stadium.
Kigali international marathon is an annual event held to commerate peace and reconciliation in Rwanda.
This year, competitive fields include; 42km marathon, 21 km marathon (half marathon), 4km marathon for children aged ten and below and a 5km fun marathon.
Winners of the 42km marathon stand to pocket USD 2000 while first and second runners up get to bag USD 1500 and USD 1200 respectively.
Over 3000 athletes are expected to take part in the event which will be preceded by two concerts to raise awareness about the importance of peace.
"The first one will be held at Petit Stade on Friday 22nd while the second will be held at Serena Hotel on 23rd May,” the National Athletes Federation Permanent Secretary Constance Twarigimana said.
This year, the theme of the marathon is "End Violence against Women and children.”
