The APR Athletics sprinter struck gold at the ongoing FEASSSA Games in Bukedea, Northern Uganda after finishing first in the girls’ 100-meter sprint.

The athletics events commenced on Friday, with competitors engaging in various disciplines. Representing Rwanda in the 100-meter race was Umutesi who secured first place, earning her second consecutive gold medal in this event after another in the 2023 Games held in Huye, Southern Province.

"I'm very happy because this is the second time; I won this medal in Rwanda before in the 100 meters. I'm thrilled to have achieved this again outside the country," she said.

Umutesi has also advanced to the final of the 200-meter race set to take place on Saturday, after finishing at the summit of her semifinal heat.

During the 2023 FEASSSA Games in Huye, Umutesi won gold in both the 100m and 200m races.

The 2023 FEASSSA Games, which will conclude on August 26, feature 162 Rwandan students competing in eight sports disciplines: handball, football, volleyball, basketball, 3x3 basketball, rugby sevens, netball, and athletics.
