Tanni Grey Thompson, a British Paralympic legend and vice president of Laureus world sport launched the first ever Paralympic project in Rwanda.

Laureus world sport is an international non-government organisation based in the UK. The Organisation aids humanitarian projects.

On top of providing sports facilities for disabled youngsters, the project also conducts training sessions for coaches.

Thompson, who won 11 Paralympic gold medals, recently conceded to the press that she was surprised at the level of development of sports for the disabled in Rwanda.

"It is hard to imagine that Rwanda has already hosted international tournaments for sports for the disabled.”

Meanwhile the President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Dominique Bizimana also confirmed to Times Sport that they had got £ 25,000 from the organisation.

"We are grateful to Laureus world sport for the package and we promise that it will go along way in funding our activities,” he said.

The Paralympics legend, who also had a brief stop over at the Gisozi Genocide Memorial site condemned the Genocide against Tutsis saying, "There are no words to describe the horrible atrocities, but Genocide is the worst evil that can happen to mankind.”
