Rwanda’s first ever professional golfer Emmanuel Ruterana says that he is dying to do his part-time sponsors Ernst & Young Rwanda proud as he makes a comeback on the greens.

The 27-year-old is part of eight professional golfers chasing for silverware in the lucrative 10th Bujumbura Invitational Open which got underway yesterday in Burundi.

Ahead of his departure to Burundi, he said, "I have missed a lot of golf over the last two months because I did not have a sponsor so I think the least I can do now is to try and reward Ernst & Young for their support with a good show in Bujumbura.”

However, with a lucrative package of $4,000 (Frw 2.2m) on offer, Ruterana expects a tough battle from his compatriot Jean Baptist Hakizimana, the Ugandan quartet of Dennis Anguyo, Herman Mutaawe, Brian Toolit and Gerald Ayella among others.

The three-day event is Ruterana’s first competitive tournament since February when he lost his long-time sponsors Rwanda Commercial Bank (BCR).
