Rwanda’s long distance icon Dieudonne Disi will not compete in any athletics competition until June this year following a leg injury he sustained during the Paris marathon last month.
Disi told Times Sport by e-mail over the weekend that he sustained the injury during the Paris marathon.
"I’m undergoing medication and according to my doctors, I may return back to the field in June,” "Otherwise, I’m fine and hope to recover in time for the Berlin Marathon mid this year,” Disi said.
Disi sustained the injury with 7km left in the 42km Paris marathon. At the time, he was in the leading group but having to run under extreme pain, he could only manage an 18th spot finish after clocking two hours, twelve minutes and 51 seconds.
It was Disi’s debut in the prestigious international event after switching from his favored 10000m distance at which his holds the national record of 27 minutes 22 seconds and 28 micro-seconds.
Kenya’s Vincent Kipruto won the marathon after a record breaking time of 2 hours, 5 minutes and 47 seconds while Ethiopia’s Worka Bazu and Kenya’s David Kiyeng finished in second and third positions after clocking 02:06:15 and 02:06:26 respectively.
Disi was using the Paris Marathon as part of his preparations ahead of the World athletics championship due in Berlin, Germany in August.
