How far with those New Year resolutions?
Thursday, March 17, 2022

2022 is moving at incredible speed, it seems like January was just yesterday, but now April is around the corner. But the question is, are you already on the path to fulfilling the resolutions you set for the year? If not, what’s hindering you?

You perhaps subscribed for a gym membership to get into shape or stay fit, but unfortunately, you are almost always absent.

How far with that book you promised to start writing, or reading, or the plan to get new skills in cooking? What about that habit you said you were going to drop; is it procrastination? Was this the year you said you’d beef up your education? Have you at least applied to do so?

When it comes to resolutions, the problem lies in not starting. The beauty about starting something is that regardless of how slowly it moves, at least there is progress.

If your target was to lose 10 kilograms by the end of the year and you haven’t put in the time to even get started, of course your target won’t be reached. But if you get started, and lose less, it will still be worth it, because you gave it your time and energy.

When you feel discouraged, it is advisable to look at the reason behind doing something—that way, you will know how badly you need to achieve it.

Some people yearn to be promoted at their workplace, and so they find ways to make themselves as suitable for a promotion as possible. For instance, they may decide to take on extra tasks and show an eagerness to learn. They may even go an extra mile to equip themselves with more skills and understanding regarding the position they are targeting, through training and conferences.

Such people deserve the promotion because they have put in all the work necessary, and have proved that they will manage the position.

If you do not put in the effort, what are the chances that you will get what you want on a silver plate? Sometimes the process is hard, but the fruits are worthwhile.

It’s not too late to start, or even change your plans. Start afresh or re-adjust; do what you feel is feasible at this point, though you need a detailed plan. This will help you come up with tactics to use to reach your goal, and in case you encounter challenges, you will be better suited to handle them.

Sometimes all you need is motivation to keep you going. Get a strong support system, you need people that encourage you to keep doing something. Get someone to hold you accountable. Good luck!
