Husain Al Musallam (R) held talks with sports minister Aurore Mimosa Munyangaju (C) on Wednesday.

Husain Al Musallam, President of the world swimming governing body (FINA), is in Rwanda for an official two-day working visit.

Al Musallam arrived in Kigali on Wednesday, March 16, and held talks with sports minister Aurore Mimosa Munyangaju, local Olympic committee president Theo Uwayo and Pamela Girimbabazi, president of the Rwanda Swimming Federation.

Rwanda has over the years produced notable swimmers such as Eloi Imaniraguha, Johanna Umurungi, Alphonsine Agahozo, Isiaka Irankunda and Jackson Niyomugabo who competed in major world competitions including Olympic Games and the All-Africa Games.

The working visit by Al Musallam, his first in the country, is seen as an encouraging step to help bring the sport to greater heights.

As of their visit to the country, Al Musallam and his delegation also paid tribute to victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi at Kigali Genocide Memorial on Thursday.
