The National Paralympic Committee is set to get sponsorship from Laureus World Sport for Good foundation.

According to NPC president Dominique Bizimana, the sponsorship which amounts to UK Pound Sterling 25,000 is part of Laureus World Sport’s Development of Sports and Rights for people with disabilities in Rwanda project.

Laureus World Sport vice president Tanni Grey Thompson is in the country to sign the sponsorship deal with the NPC.

"Laureus World Sport has been our biggest sponsors, and we plan to show her (Thompson) some of our achievements in the last four years,” Bizimana told Times Sport.

Laureus World Sport for Good foundation is an international Non Government Organization that aids humanitarian projects.

The organization has so far helped over 75000 children all over the world, especially those with physical disabilities in the developing world.

The foundation is led by the famous American former double Olympic good medalist in 400m Edwin Moses, and has various members including re-known stars like Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, Roger Federer and former tennis number one-Boris Becker.

Meanwhile, in a bid to popularize sports for people with disabilities in the country, the National Paralympic Committee has resolved to spread it throughout the country, starting with primary and secondary schools.

Speaking to sports journalists during a workshop last week, the NPC president told the journalists that their main mission is to introduce sports for people with disabilities in every school around the country.

The one-day workshop was organised to sensitize the sports journalists on the importance of sports for people with disabilities in Rwanda.

"Our main mission is to start sports for the disabled in all the schools around the country (Primary and Secondary); universities already have these sports,” Bizimana said.
Bizimana noted that eight years after the NPC was formed, they has achieved a lot, like introducing different kinds of sport for people with disabilities including tennis, sitball, sitting volley ball, cricket and goalball.
