2009 Africa Men’s Club Championship
Quarter finals
APR vs Ahly Tripoli (Libya)
Al Ahly (Egypt) vs Sonel (Cameroon)
GSU (Kenya) vs FAP (Cameroon)
Zamalek (Egypt) vs Port Douala (Cameroon)
APR are in for a massive test today when they take on Al Ahly Tripoli in one of four quarter-final ties at this year’s Africa Men Club Championship in Cairo, Egypt.
The army-side progressed to the last eight after finishing second to defending champions Zamalek in Pool B.
On the other hand, it was a smooth voyage for the Libyan side which is just one of four clubs (GSU of Kenya, eight-time record champions Al Ahly of Egypt and Zamalek) not to taste defeat at the group stage.
Al Ahly Tripoli came through unscathed in Pool C after easy wins against Force Terrestre (3-0), Port Douala (3-1) and Inter Club (3-0) and there is no doubt that they are the more confident side of the two.
In the other quarter-final clashes, three-time champions Zamalek face Port Douala, Kenya’s GSU take on FAP of Cameroon while Al Ahly of Egypt entertain Sonel. Classification games are also on cards.
Rwanda National University (UNR) still stands out as the most successful Rwandan club in the competition following their 7th spot finish back in 2007.
