Eric Kalisa is the new president of the Rwanda Basketball Federation (Ferwaba) after being voted into office unanimously during Sunday’s elections at Amahoro national stadium.

"I am glad that voters have entrusted their faith in me and I promise that together with the new executive, we shall work tirelessly towards taking the sport to a whole new level,” said Kalisa after assuming office.

Despite putting Rwandan basketball on the map, former president Fidele Rutagarama did not contest for another term preferring to concentrate on his personal business.

"I’m stepping down because I have a lot of personal business to take care of but I promise to assist the new committee in any way that I can,” Rutagarama said.

Kalisa’s immediate task will be to prepare the men and women national sides for this year’s Afro-basket competitions.
