Aspej women football club’s resilience paid off on Sunday afternoon when they came from behind to beat La Charite 2-1 in Muhanga.

Ange Uwimana gave the home side the lead after 20 minutes but two second half strikes from Jackie Mukarukundo and Angelique Mukankundire gave the league leaders the victory.

On a day every body thought that Aspej would lose their first league match of the season, Mukarukundo equalized in the 60th minute to give her team mates renewed before Mukankundire netted a late winner.

Aspej’s captain Theogne Mukamusonera acknowledged that their ability to grind out difficult wins may be the catalyst that will propel them to their first league title.

"La Charite shocked us with an early goal, but our ability and commitment won us the tie. We shall do anything to win the league title.”Mukamusonera told Times Sport.

Defending champions APR beat Rubavu 2-0 at Kicukiro play grounds.

APR’s goals were scored in the second half by Aime Turizeyere and Salif Emily.

Aspej lead the table with 18 points, two ahead of APR in second. AS Kigali are third with 13 points.
