Finergreen, has announced that it will be supporting Rwanda’s national cycling team in the upcoming Tour du Rwanda competition and also invest in different renewable energy projects.

With headquarters in France, Finergreen is a financial advisory boutique specialized in the energy transition and one of the most powerful investment banks in the world in the renewable energy sector.

According to an official statement from the firm, a team of seven professionals from the company's various offices across the globe led by the founder and Chief Executive, Damien Ricordeau will support the national cycling team in the forthcoming Tour du Rwanda, slated for February 20 to 27.

The elite competition is expected to bring together 19 teams, both African and international.

Finergreen will be celebrating its first year as one of the key partners of the Rwandan national cycling team through the association Rouler pour le Rwanda.

It has also previously sponsored the cycling team during the last UCI Road World Championships, which took place in Flanders, Belgium, in September 2021.

Finergreen and Hydroneo East Africa will also be involved in the creation of an academy in Rwanda whose aim is to continue training future cyclists so that they can compete in the 2025 UCI Road World Championships.

Rwanda will host this high-level championship, the first time that it will take place in an African country.

Investment in renewables

Besides involvement in sports, Finergreen is committed to investing in Rwanda in partnership with Hydroneo East Africa for a number of long-term projects.

Both companies have already invested millions of Euros in three hydropower projects whose construction is ongoing in Rwanda.

These include; two projects under construction in Gicumbi and Nyamasheke districts for a total investment amount of €9 million (approximately over Rwf12 billion). The first one, Kavumu Hydropower Plant located in Gicumbi, is scheduled to start operating next month in March 2022.

The third project is still under development in Rusizi District, the total investment amount of which is estimated at €12 million (more than Rwf14 billion).

Beyond the power stations, the firm is also involved in implementing social projects in partnership with local NGOs with the aim of the local community’s development and wellbeing.

In that line, three social projects, co-financed by the French Development Agency (AFD), La Guilde and Caritas, are being set up in Nyamasheke District.

Founded in 2013, Finergreen has already completed 150 transactions worth over 3 billion euros. It expanded to Africa in 2016, with three offices in Abidjan, Nairobi, in Cape Town.

The company’s portfolio in renewable energy projects (hydro and solar) has grown to two gigawatts so far, establishing itself as a key player in the African renewable energy market, thanks to its strong capacity and solid expertise in strategic advisory and investment.

In 2021, the company ranked first in Inframation international League Table, with 30 transactions executed in the renewable energy industry.
