Andrew Kulayigye, the captain of the Kigali Golf Club says measures have been put in place to train youngsters who are interested in golf.

Kulayige believes that there are many young people in secondary schools who love the sport and have taken the initiative to get all of them as they seek to hone their talents.

"We are trying to develop more youngsters in the sport, we have Swing for you which is an academy of the club and it attracts those at young age as well as new golfers." Kulayige told Times Sport.

"There is also a school outreach where every Wednesday we have school children who come to practice. There are serious plans under way to reach many schools and institutions."

"Golf is a sport for all no matter your age."

Kulayige further dispelled the notion that Golf is for the affluent in society as he revealed that other sports even charge much for registration and training.

"Golf is not for the rich in society as people say. Anyone can play Golf. All depends on having great interest in the sport. Kigali Golf Club for instance you pay a one-time registration premium. Other sports such as Gymnastics, the charges are even much higher and most sports disciplines also pay new registration after a few months."

"One benefit of Golf is that it has a very good effect on the economy as you will meet lots of business professionals and it helps in networking as well as sharing intellectual ideas."

The team leader of the Kigali Golf club also indicated that Golf is relatively a young sport in Rwanda but with time, it will grow.

"Golf is a very young game in Rwanda, it started in 1987 and now with RSSB coming to invest in the sport, we have a standardized golf course which can host international events."

"Currently, we have 410 golfers who are members from the Kigali Golf club and this includes expatriates. We have also positioned ourselves to attract golf tourists," he added

Meanwhile the Kigali Golf Club on Saturday, February 12 held a memorial game for one of its members, Richard Karimba who passed away on January 1, 2022.

The game attracted 110 golfers who participated in five categories which included those for ladies and the seniors who are above the age of sixty.
