ASSIA MUTONI, a famous local actress, yesterday released a song, which has got many of her fans wondering if she is a new singer to be added to the list of so many artistes that Rwanda has so far.

"Today I released my brand new song ‘Long Distance’ and it is all about the two love birds who live in very different countries. The inspiration came from my personal experience and I had to deliver as a gift to my lover and other people who are doing a long-distance relationship,” Assia Mutoni told The New Times.

Mutoni revealed that this song is her story and it also is a soundtrack in her soon-to-be released movie. She told also dubbed ‘Long Distance’.

She explained that the song talks about a couple that is in a long-distance relationship and that the distance can't come between them.

The movie however, is different.

 "The movie is all about some people who are in long-distance relationships only with negative intentions; either for the sake of getting money or Visa from the diaspora and then cheat on them.”

When asked whether she can be considered as a new talent in the singing field she said,

 "Currently, I can’t promise to stay in the music field. I was only in need of a soundtrack for my movie and because I am in this kind of relationship. I composed the song and liked it and  shot the video too. However, whenever inspiration comes, I can still record some more songs just for fun and share them but not now.”

Mutoni acts as Alice in a renowned TV Serie dubbed ‘Seburikoko’. 

She has five consecutive local awards to her name. Some from Rwanda Movie Awards as the Best Actress, others from Urusaro Film Festival just to mention a few. Prior to ‘Long Distance’, she has three other movies of her own like ‘Gatarina’, ‘Sekirite’ and ‘Boringo’.
