D-Day: Rwanda begins quest for women’s basketball W.Cup ticket

The women’s national basketball team will, on Monday, August 19, begin its quest for a ticket to the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup.

The women’s national basketball team will, on Monday, August 19, begin its quest for a ticket to the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup with a game against Lebanon in the pre-qualifiers in Kigali.

Scheduled to take place at 8 PM at BK Arena, the game will give Rwanda a taste of the competition before it proceeds to face other teams in its group (D) in the following days.

After the Lebanon game, Rwanda will back on the court on August 21 against Argentina and later face Great Britain on August, 22.

Rwanda enters the competition with the underdog tag on their shoulders but also with the potential to surprise some teams.

Ranked 74th in the world, the team is coming off a great run at the 2023 FIBA Women's AfroBasket, where it reached the semi-finals for the first time.
