The French president says it will ‘take time’ to lower tensions after talks with Putin and Zelenskyy.
French President Emmanuel Macron has said any resolution of the Ukraine crisis may yet take months following high-level talks with Kyiv and Moscow.
After meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Tuesday, Macron said it was imperative to "find ways of bringing viewpoints together and lowering the tension”.
He told reporters at a news conference that such a process would "take time”, but added that his discussions with Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin a day earlier in Moscow had helped address the issue of "how to change”.
Macron said on Monday that he had made proposals of "concrete security guarantees” to Putin following the pair’s meeting. The Russian president in turn suggested some of the ideas could help ease the situation.
