I would like to react on the story that appeared in yesterday’s paper titled ‘Patients face costly neglect’ at CHUK.”

The narrative of the story shows the horror of humanity ever at the University Central Hospital, Kigali (CHU) where patients have started looking at doctor as aliens.

The writer of the story indicated that patients referred to the hospital for treatment are in most cases rejected while doctors claim that the hospital is in most cases overwhelmed by the number of patients and cannot take in anymore.

This has made me wonder whether these doctors will not get their salaries at the end of the month because they treated many people or they are just lazy and have forgotten their primary obligation of saving lives.

The hospital seems to have lost meaning to us, because the time a person is transferred to CHUK, he or she is in a critical condition and needs immediate attention from a doctor who in return deny you medication, claiming the hospital is overcrowded.

What is interesting, these same doctors have not denied medication to any of their relatives or friends; they always have space for them.

I wonder if this is not another type of corruption that involves high risks where people can even lose their lives.

Let me give these doctors a piece of advise, you either do what you studied or resign. I also call upon the government to take immediate action about this.
