Rayon Sports Women’s Football Club encountered a challenging start at the CECAFA tournament, a qualifier competition for the CAF Champions League, after losing 3-2 to Ethiopia’s CBE FC in their opening match on Saturday, August 17.

The match took place shortly after Rayon Sports arrived in the host country.
The CECAFA zone is divided into two groups, with Rayon Sports placed in Group A alongside CBE FC, South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars FC, Kenya Police Bullets FC, and Zanzibar’s Warriors Queens FC.
Rayon Sports struggled early in the match, conceding three goals in the first 42 minutes. CBE FC’s Senaf Wakuma opened the scoring in the first minute, followed by a brace from Aregash Kalsa, who scored in the 42nd and 49th minutes.

Despite the early deficit, Rayon Sports showed determination in the second half as Jeannette Ukwikunda scored in the 72nd minute, and ten minutes later, Jeannine Mukandayisenga ‘Kaboy’ added a second goal.
Rayon Sports Women will now focus on their next fixture against South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars on August 21.
