Eight must-attend events to make the most of Summer's final days

Summer's winding down, but the fun isn't over yet. This week's calendar might be light, but as promised, The New Times is here with your weekly guide to where the party’s at.

We've lined up eight diverse events—pick your vibe and dive in.

Kigali Breaking Cypher

Ready to show off your dance moves? The 7th edition of Kigali Breaking Cypher offers four competition categories: Breaking Beginner Level 1vs1, Breaking Adults 7 to Smoke, Hip-Hop All Styles 1vs1, and Afro House 4vs4.

The event will take place at Institut Français du Rwanda on Saturday, August 17, with tickets priced at Rwf10,000 for adults and Rwf5,000 for children.

Three dance companies—African Mirrors of Kigali, Afrowarriors Squad of Kigali, and Kwaki Art from Bukavu, DR Congo—are set to perform at the kickoff event, "Hip Hop Theatre Night,” this Friday.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m., and entry is free.

4 Hands BBQ and Brunch at Onomo Hotels

Kick off your weekend with a culinary showdown on Friday, August 16, as over five chefs from across Africa team up for a BBQ session at Onomo Hotels.

Expect live performances from celebs like Bwiza, Victor Rukotana, Afrique, and Mama Afrika. On Sunday, August 18, celebrate with an Afro-fusion Umuganura brunch at the same venue. The brunch is priced at Rwf30,000 for adults and Rwf15,000 for children, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Chaos in Harmony Exhibition

Discover the interplay between chaos and harmony in this thought-provoking art exhibition by artist Daddyisme. The "Chaos in Harmony" exhibition will be held at Envision Gallery, 41 KG 601 ST, from August 16 to 30.

Rwanda Basketball League Showdown

Local giants Patriots and APR will clash on Friday, August 16, at 8:30 p.m. at BK Arena in a game that is expected to determine the regular-season leader.

Earlier, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) will face Espoir at 6 p.m. Ticket prices range from Rwf5,000 for the lower bowl to Rwf10,000 for CIP and Rwf15,000 for courtside seats.

Mr. Nice Live in Kigali

Tanzanian music legend Mr. Nice, known for his early 2000s hits, will be performing live in Kigali at Antonov, Kicukiro, on Friday, August 16.

The 46-year-old musician will party with club music enthusiasts from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Tickets are priced at Rwf5,000.

The Keza Camp-Out Experience

Ugandan sensation Sheebah Karungi is set to headline the inaugural Keza Camp-Out Experience at KCEV (formerly Camp Kigali).

According to the organizers, the event, scheduled for this Saturday, August 17, promises a day of unforgettable music, entertainment, and networking.

Kicking off at 10 a.m., the event offers a full day of engaging activities, including lively pool games, an array of delicious food and drinks, and networking opportunities.

The Keza Camp-Out Experience will conclude at midnight, wrapping up a day of entertainment and cultural exchange.

Tickets are currently available at Rwf 10,000 for regular seating, Rwf 20,000 for VIP, Rwf 40,000 for VVIP, and Rwf 400,000 for a table of eight. Tickets purchased at the door will incur an additional Rwf 5,000 per ticket, with an extra Rwf 100,000 added to the table of eight.

Sofar Jazz Night

Experience an intimate jazz night with music teacher and musician Joey Blake at Sud Kigali, KG 672 ST Gate 6, on Saturday, August 16.

The show runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with entry priced at Rwf20,000.

Weekend Gaming at Kigali Universe

The football season is back, and Kigali Universe is set to showcase the Premier League opener featuring Fulham versus Manchester United at Old Trafford this Friday, August 16, starting at 9 p.m. Entry is priced at Rwf2,000.

For gaming enthusiasts, new arcade packages have been introduced, offering a variety of experiences including PlayStation, car and motorbike racing, speed hockey, 1-on-1 shooting, and projection shooting.

Golf can be enjoyed for Rwf5,000, while 7D animation starts at Rwf2,500. Other game packages, like car racing, motorbikes, and basketball, are available for just Rwf2,000.

Try your skills at projection shooting or tennis for Rwf5,000 each, or take on Hummer Punching for only Rwf1,000. PlayStation games are available at Rwf1,500 per 10-minute session, and Gran Turismo, featuring 3 laps per person, is offered at Rwf2,500.
