Nyanza district has organised a friendly football match between Rayon Sports and Mukura VS on September 7 as part of the 125th anniversary celebrations of Nyanza town.
Set to run from September 2-8, the celebrations will feature various activities aimed at commemorating the town's rich history since its founding in 1899.
Nyanza district mayor Erasme Ntazinda expressed his excitement about the upcoming event, noting the deep-rooted connection between Rayon Sports and the district.
"Rayon Sports is one of our key partners, and we value our ongoing collaboration. They play a crucial role in our awareness campaigns, and we are committed to supporting them in return," he noted.
He further highlighted that Rayon Sports is more than just a football team for Nyanza; since it symbolises the district's heritage. He pointed out that many of the team's players throughout history have hailed from this region.
Rayon Sports was founded in Nyanza.
The team's return to the district is an annual tradition. Last year, it secured a 1-0 victory over Sudan's El Merreikh during the visit.
Initially, Rayon Sports and Mukura VS had planned a friendly match in Huye, but it was canceled following Ferwafa's announcement that it would coincide with the Super Cup match in which Police FC defeated APR FC on penalties on August 10.
