I read with great shock the story of an upcoming hotel in Nyarutarama that was recently bulldozed to the ground.  Money and labour have come to naught, what a pity. 

Varied reasons were given to why the Gasabo district authorities took this action. The reason of particular interest to me is that the investor did not get the relevant authorisation to add or alter his previous design.

The additional construction of a swimming pool and sauna it was reported would affect the sewage system and consequently negatively affect the environment.

If this is really the true position, I wonder why this foreign investor did not take the time to consult with the relevant authorities about his alterations? 

Do the Authorities keep close tabs on the goings on in their district? If so, why did it take them a considerably long time to detect this anomaly? 

I say ‘considerably long’ because from the picture in the dailies front page, the building looks almost complete. And what does REMA have to say?

Do they keep tabs on what is going on either? I evidently have very many questions to ask, and in all this, I somewhat empathise with those who put in so many hours into this project.

I hope, the casual labourers will also not be put out on the street, jobless, due to someone’s negligence or under hand dealings.
