Experienced Nigerian tactician Augustine Eguavoen will coach his country in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers Group D games against Benin and Rwanda on September 7 and September 10 respectively.
The Super Eagles are currently without a head coach after firing George Finidi in June following abysmal results in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers where Nigeria drew with South Africa and lost to Benin.
Eguavoen is currently the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and Times Sport understands that he has agreed to coach the senior national team for the two impending games on an interim basis.
Eguavoen led the Super Eagles on temporary capacity at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon where they were knocked out at the round of 16.
He was subsequently relieved of duties as the country appointed Portuguese tactician Jose Peseiro who led them to the finals of the 2023 AFCON in Cote d'Ivoire before resigning.
