FIBA WCup qualifiers: Dakar to host Rwanda’s Group B qualifiers

Rwanda is in group B alongside Tunisia, Cameroon and South Sudan.

Dakar will host Group B and D of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup African qualifiers.

The games will be played at Dakar Arena from February 25-27.

Rwanda is in Group B alongside South Sudan, Cameroon and Tunisia.

The development was confirmed by Landry Jabo, the Executive Director of Rwanda Basketball Club (Ferwaba), in an exclusive interview with Times Sport.

"The national team will leave on February 15 in order to take part in some friendly games," he said.

Cheikh Sarr, the national team head coach, is expected to name the squad for the qualifiers next week.

Sixteen African teams will be contending for a spot in the FIBA World Cup that will unfold in Indonesia, Japan and Philippines next year.

The qualifiers journey will run over an 18-month period.

Teams will have to go through a six-window qualifying process that will eventually determine the final 32 teams for the World Cup.

Africa will be represented by five teams.

African qualifiers’ groups 

Group A: Cape Verde, Mali, Uganda, Nigeria

Group B: South Sudan, Cameroon, Tunisia, Rwanda

Group C: Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Central Africa Republic, Angola

Group D: Kenya, Senegal, Egypt, Democratic Republic of Congo.
