Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has announced that applications to join the Reserve Force, one of its four branches, began on August 14 and will be closed on August 19.

According to the law governing the RDF, the Reserve Force is made up of soldiers on full-time active duty and others who serve part-time, but who can be recalled to active duty whenever necessary.

Eligible applicants include holders of bachelor’s degrees in medicine, engineering and law, as well as secondary and technical school (IPRC) graduates.

Applications are submitted at the sector and district level. Recruitment tests will be done at the district level from August 19 to September 3.

The recruits will attend a six-month training at the RDF Combat Training Centre Gabiro, the RDF said in an announcement dated August 13.

Candidates must be 18 to 28 years old. Candidates with secondary school education must be 18 to 25 years; those who went to technical schools (IPRC) must be 18-26.

For the holders of bachelor’s degree in medicine, engineering and law, they must not be older than 28 years of age.

The applicants must be Rwandan, with healthy lives and willing to join the RDF.

They must not have been definitely sentenced by courts of law or blacklisted from public service.

They must exhibit good, acceptable conduct.

To be recruited, they will have to pass the tests.

To be able take the test, the candidates will present the national identity cards, a certificate of their academic qualifications, a certificate of good conduct and a certificate of their criminal record.
