Atraco has set its eyes on this year’s MTN Peace Cup title after storming the quarter-finals of this year’s edition whose winner qualifies to for next year’s Caf Confederation Cup.

The taxi-men side lost to rivals APR in final last year but assistant coach Emmanuel Ruremesha told Times Sport yesterday that they have set themselves a target of going a step better this time round.

"We are not only interested in the prize money that the winner will get; we are looking at real value of this competition.

"Winning the Peace Cup will give us the chance to play in next year’s Caf Confederation Cup in case we don’t qualify for the Champions League through winning the league,” Ruremesha said.

The former Kibuye Fc coach called on Atraco fans to remain calm and give massive support to their team for the remaining part of the season.

Atraco reached the quarter-finals after defeating ISAE 6-0 in the second leg of the preliminary round.

André Lomami and Michael Sebalinga scored a brace; Johnson Bagoole added one with goalie Eric Ndayishimiye scoring his first goal in the competition through a penalty.

The win sets up a meeting with second division side Zebres, who played a 1-all draw against Nyanza but won 4-1 in penalty shoot-outs.

Defending champions APR set new national scoring record when they thrashed second division side Etoile de l’est 22-0 to storm the quarter-finals 25-0 goal aggregates.

DR Congo striker Ndjoli Bokungu scored eight goals, Kabange Twite scored four and Kenyan international Moses Odhiambo notched a hat trick.

Forgotten men, Djabir Mutarambirwa and Eric Serugaba scored a brace each. Elias Uzamukunda celebrated signing a two-year professional contract with French Ligue 1 side Fc Nantes also netted twice.

Goalie, Jean Ndoli was also on the score sheet with a well taken penalty.

The Military side also held the previous record of 13-0 league win against Zebres two years in a game Kabange scored eight times. They also beat Military Fc 13-0 in the league last season, on that occasion Uzamukunda scored five.

APR will face Musanze, who eliminated the National University of Rwanda (UNR). Elsewhere, Rayon Sport reached the last eight after defeating 5-0 over Interforce to qualify on 10-0 aggregate.

The troubled Raoul Shungu’s side, however, got an automatic qualification to the semi-finals following disqualification of their would-be opponents Espoir or Etincelles from the competition.

Espoir failed to travel for the second leg tie in Ruhengeri against Etincelles but the latter had also failed to honor first leg match.

Mukura won their re-scheduled first leg game against Gisovu 1-0 and the second leg is planned mid next week. The winner will face Jeunesse in the quarter-finals.

The clubs are competing for total prize money over Frw. 23 millions with the winner scooping Frw. 10 million. The second, third and fourth clubs will pocket Frw. 7m, Frw.4m and Frw. 2.5m respectively.
