Even in the midst of the pandemic, Rwandan artistes delivered beyond expectation with so many bangers that put their talents to the next level. As we come closer to the end of 2021, we bring you some of the songs that took the local music by storm, based on the YouTube views, radio and television power play, as well as some music top charts.
‘My Vow’ by Meddy
In the song, Meddy reiterates his vow to his wife, Mimi. It was released in July and it received good reception from his fans. Currently, ‘My Vow’ has 11.2M views on YouTube, with many arguing that the artiste bought views while others refuted the claims.
‘Katapila’ by Bruce Melody
Bruce Melody is one of the artistes who showcased their potential in elevating the Rwandan music industry this year. His hit song ‘Katapila’, released in June now has 3M views. It is also one of the songs that are listed on his yet-to-be-released album.
‘Away’ by Ariel Wayz and Juno Kizigenza
‘Away’ is a song about two lovebirds who would go the extra mile for their love. It made it to 1M views in less than a month and currently has close to 3M since it was released in June.
Adonaï by Vestine and Dorcas
The gospel song went out amidst a saga between the duo’s parents and the management team. It all happened in July and now 'Adonaï’ has already hit 2.6M views on YouTube.
‘Piyapuresha’ by Niyo Bosco
The song was released in July and demonstrates how peer pressure leads so many people into temptation that they are not ready to face. In 2021 it was one of the hits songs with a message that was mostly emphasizing youth’s behaviors and aiming to bring about change. ‘Piyapuresha’ now has 2.6M views.
‘Mi Casa’ by Christopher
After parting ways with Kina Music, Christopher has managed to stay in the music lane, and this year, in August, the artiste released ‘Mi Casa’ a love song that now has 1.9M views on his YouTube channel.
‘Amata’ by DJ Phil Peter and Social Mula
The song is a debut of renowned journalist and deejay as well as a singer, a talent he revealed recently, Phil Peter. The song features Social Mula and made it in the hit songs of the year with 1.6M.
‘Say My Name’ by Kenny Sol
In June 2021, Kenny Sol and Juno Kizigenza parted ways with Igitangaza Music Label and Bruce Melodie, the founder, said that the two are big talents to sponsor. Both didn’t take long to prove it. Kenny Sol released ‘Say My Name’ in September and is now already at 1.2M views.
‘Amabiya’ by Mico The Best
In this song, the artiste urges youth to drink responsibly. It is one of the 2021 songs that fans enjoyed, regardless of the fact that the pandemic was at its peak. Since its release in June ‘Amabiya’ has had up to 1.2M views.
‘Igikwe’ by Gabiro Guitar and Confy
Gabiro Guitar, who represented Rwanda in the fourth edition of Tusker Project Fame, collaborated with fast-rising artiste, Confy and they did ‘Igikwe’ which now has 1M views. This song is on Gabiro Guitar’s EP dubbed ‘Criminal Love’ which came out with his music label, Evolve Music Group.
