Rwanda National Police (RNP) has urged the public to celebrate responsibly in order to ensure safe festivities.
RNP Spokesperson, CP John Bosco Kabera, assured that the security of citizens and their property will be provided as always and has been the case in previous festive seasons.
However, given the current situation where the Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc around the world, he cautioned the public to continue observing the guidelines to tackle the virus.
Also, he said, people should do their best to prevent deadly accidents.
Last year, there were four fatal road accidents on Christmas Day.
Five people died in accidents that occurred between New Year’s Eve and Jan. 1, 2021.
"We however argue the public to celebrate responsibly by observing all Covid-19 preventive measures, driving carefully while observing speed limits and avoid drunk driving to avoid fatal accidents,” Kabera observed.
As of December 24, 2021, afternoon, confirmed Covid-19 cases in Rwanda amounted to 103,170, active cases were 2,091, while deaths induced by the disease totalled 1,345 (1.3 per cent of the recorded total cases), according to data from the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC).
Over 7.3 million Rwandan residents had received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while over 5 million had gotten the second dose and more than 64,500 had received the third dose.
