As a child, Miguel Clement Mutali longed to be in the medical field so that he could help people. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out, and so he ended up doing something else instead.

"The failure was like a big blow, nonetheless, I recollected myself and decided to reignite my desire and shift focus to something else, while still helping others,” he says.

The 29-year old decided to venture into fitness, which according to him would still mean helping others with physical wellbeing.

Mutali is now a trained fitness instructor and sports therapist, working at Kigali Marriott Hotel. The sports therapy sessions, he says, mainly involve full-body stretching, as well as sport massage treatments for clients. He also trains people in outdoor and indoor exercises.

Starting out

In high school, Miguel studied mathematics, chemistry, and biology and later enrolled for a nursing course at the university. In 2015, while in university, he started working out to remain fit. He didn’t know anything meaningful would come out of it. But with time, his passion grew, and he found himself fully invested in fitness.

He then started taking up different trainings in 2016 that led to a solid career. He now holds different credentials in fitness coaching, nutrition guidance, food and dieting, exercise creation, among others.

In 2017, Mutali started working professionally, training different people, and their progress and success stories kept him going. This career, he says, has so far helped others change their lifestyle. People have achieved their fitness goals, like body composition, muscle gain, body maintaining, strength training, and fat loss, and even those with back, knee, and nerve problems.

"Aside from seeing my clients’ progress from being unfit to fit, this is a big motivation to me as it means that my dream of helping people is being accomplished,” he says.

On an individual level, Mutali says a fitness career has helped him remain fit and most importantly, it boosts his energy and morale to work hard in other areas too.

When it comes to discipline, Mutali says exercising has been a great way to improve self-discipline, and it has taught him to focus on tasks at hand. By doing this, he learns how to work on his goals and achieve them at the same time.

His future plan, however, is to become a fitness expert teacher and have his own home coaching studio that will see a big number of people change their lifestyle by embracing fitness.
