AS Kigal 1-2 Rayon Sports Marines FC 1-2 APR FC Mukura VS&L 1-2 Kiyovu
Caretaker Romami Marcel inspired Rayon Sports to winning ways with a 2-1 hard-fought victory over AS Kigali on Saturday, December 18, at Kigali Stadium.
In-form Youssef Rharb scored the opening goal for the Blues in the first half before Manasse Mutatu doubled the lead after two minutes to put his side in control of the game.
The City of Kigali-sponsored club pushed to pull one back before the half time but goalkeeper Adolphe Hakizimana made crucial saves to keep Rayon Sports in the game.
Eric Nshimiyimana brought in Ernest Sugira who replaced skipper Pierrot Kwizera in the second half to reinforce his attack in push for an early goal as they looked to force at least a draw.
Rayon’s defense struggled to cope with pressure from AS Kigali’s attack and, as a result, conceded a goal after 10 minutes of the second half as Latif Bishira smashed Haruna Niyonzima’s cross from the corner to give his side a consolation goal, just a minute after Youssef was taken out due to a hamstring injury.
Eric Nshimiyimana and his team pushed for another but Rayon held on to win the game and grab their first win since head coach Masudi Juma was suspended from his coaching duties due to poor run of results.
Elsewhere, Yves Mugunga and Yannick Bizimana were on the scoresheet as defending champions APR FC maintained their unbeaten run with 2-1 win over Marines at Stade Umuganda while table leaders Kiyovu SC came from behind to beat Mukura 2-1 at Huye Stadium.
