Local record label and entertainment house, Rocky Entertainment on Wednesday, December 8, announced that it would be parting ways with upcoming artiste King Lewis Abijuru also known as Papa Cyangwe, as ‘he embarks on a solo career’.
"Pursuant to his request to carry on the music career as an individual artist, we would like to officially inform the public that the artist is no longer under our management,” read the statement released by Rocky entertainment.
Shedding light on the development, Marc Uwizeye, the owner of Rocky Entertainment told this paper that he is optimistic that the fast-rising artiste will succeed in his solo career.
"Even though he is leaving, I strongly believe that he is capable of staying in the spotlight. Based on how we’ve worked with him, we believe that what we’ve achieved with him will help him shine, and we will keep on supporting him as much as we can”, Commented Uwizeye, also known as Rocky.
Asked if the label can welcome him once he re-considers his decision, the label CEO said that they would first analyze why he left, and use the grounds to come up with the second decision.
He also revealed that the label will be announcing some new artistes and good music from the house very soon.
Papa Cyangwe refutes the move
On his side, the singer refuted the development, saying that he neither resigned, nor did he ask to part ways with the label.
In an exclusive interview with The New Times, Abijuru wonders how someone without a contract can be fired.
"I did not bid farewell to them, and I don’t understand how they can fire me yet we didn’t sign any contract. So, for me, we’re still together as brothers,” he said.
Asked whether what seems like a label, ‘Cyuma Gang’ that is mostly seen on his recent projects might be behind this, the artist replied: "In fact this has been going on for so long. There was some misunderstanding between us but soon the truth behind it all will come out. But after seeing all those issues, that is when I started doing my projects under ‘Cyuma Gang’ aside”, he revealed.
The music label, entertainment and local movie translation house has been in charge of Papa Cyangwe’s audio and video production and music promotion.
It is understood that they also supported him in all areas of his music career, as a rising artiste.
