SEEKING PEARL GLORY: Davite Giancarlo.

As the  second round of inaugural KCB East African Challenge gets under way in Kampala, Uganda, the Rwandan duo driver Davite Giancarlo and Olivier Costa have their work cut out as they come against some of the continent’s top drivers.

Rwanda’s national rally champion Davite Giancarlo and Olivier Costa are the country’s only entries in the three-day rally scheduled for May 1-3 in Uganda. Speaking ahead of the event, Costa said that he does not expect things to be any easier than in Kenya (KCB Safari rally).

"Of course we don’t expect it to be easy in Uganda. We are still competing against top drivers with a lot more experience at this level,” Costa, who is fourth (seven points) on the ARC charts said.

In Uganda, Giancarlo and Costa will come against the likes of James Whyte (2008 FIA ARC first runners up), Muna Singh (two-time ARC champion) and Uganda’s speed merchant Emma Katto amongst others.

The duo posted bad starts in the KCB Safari rally, the first round of the Inaugural KCB East African Challenge and know that they need good performances in Uganda to revive their hopes in the KCB East African Challenge.

Costa finished 19th while Giancarlo failed to finish.

KCB Pearl of Africa rally also doubles as the third round on the FIA Africa Rally Championship.
